The Share House becomes home

Open day at the Youngcare Wooloowin Sharehouse

Home

What do you think, feel or see when we say the word ‘home’?

It’s a warm fuzzy feeling inside, the smell of clean sheets, a home cooked meal and the memories of endless laughs with family and friends.

As you read this, four young Aussies are making these memories together at their new home at the Youngcare Share House at Wooloowin. Thank you for helping to make this life of choice, independence and dignity a reality for these young people and their families.

The Share House is further proof that there is an alternative to aged care for young Aussies with high care needs, and on Friday, 10 July 2015 friends and supporters of Youngcare got a sneak peek of this beautifully light and bright home for themselves.

It was a chilly start to the morning, but braving it was well and truly worth it for a grand tour, a coffee and a good old classic sausage-in-bread. We were also lucky enough to be joined by Kip and Luttsy from the NOVA breakfast team who were broadcasting LIVE from the Share House. Channel 9 also came down with newsreader Andrew Lofthouse, to take a tour and announce that, along with the NOVA team, he would be running the New York Marathon in support of Youngcare – more news on this in the next month!

By far the best part of the morning was seeing the excited faces of the new housemates, who LOVE their new home and were kind enough to open their front door to their new neighbours, and Youngcare supporters.

You can check out all of the excitement from the preview morning on our Facebook page.

Thank you so much to all of our supporters, partners, sponsors and the local community and government departments that took the time to visit the Youngcare Share House at Wooloowin – we loved showing you around and massively appreciate your support on so many different levels.

None of this would have been possible without the generous land grant from the Queensland Government and the overwhelming support from Master Builders Foundation who enabled the Youngcare Share House to get out off the ground.
