Youngcare Apartments Gold Coast project officially launched

 

On Tuesday 1 June, the Youngcare Apartments Gold Coast project was officially launched by Premier Anna Bligh.

 

Over 70 people attended the launch to help Youngcare mark this significant milestone including the Premier, members of the Gold Coast Jetstar Titans, ABC Bricks Sales, representatives from The Wesley Mission Brisbane, FKP and various local media and many more.

 

Premier Bligh said the State Government was pleased to be delivering on an election commitment to provide $3 million in recurrent care funding over the next three years through the Young People in Residential Aged Care (YPIRAC) program.

 

“Young people deserve to live young lives and we can help them do this by supporting and investing in initiatives like the Youngcare Apartments Gold Coast,” Premier Bligh said.

 

“While the State Government will fund the ongoing care of residents at the new Coomera apartment complex, $2.52 million in construction funding is also being delivered through the Commonwealth Government’s Economic Stimulus Package, supported by the Department of Communities.”

 

Despite this financial support from both the Federal and State Governments, a $1 million funding gap still exists for the project.

 

“To ensure timely delivery of our Gold Coast Apartments project, Youngcare needs to raise a further $1 million in cash and pro-bono support from all types of tradespeople and suppliers to reach the $4 million build cost,” Youngcare CEO Marina Vit said.

 

“Youngcare enjoys enormous support from the community, business sector and government and we hope such support will continue to be forthcoming as we roll out various fundraising initiatives to reach our Gold Coast construction target.”

 

Earmarked for completion in early 2011, the Gold Coast Apartments will be the second accommodation project for Youngcare, supporting the needs of young people requiring relevant and dignified, round-the-clock care.

 

Upon completion, the development will consist of seven one-bedroom apartments, a multi-purpose unit, gym and therapy room for ongoing rehabilitation and therapy.
