Thongs represent youth, freedom and fun, all things that young Australians have the right to experience. Youngcare’s first national awareness day was held on October 1 and saw Aussies around the nation don their best pluggers and celebrate what it means to be young.
There are 7,500 young Australians with full-time care needs currently living in aged care simply because there are few alternatives. A further 700,000 are being cared for at home by family and friends.
Youngcare exists to drive change to create real choice in care and accommodation options for young Australians with full-time care needs. And Thong Day was the first step in raising awareness of this issue on a national platform.
Australians celebrated Thong Day in their own unique ways, from getting their workplaces onboard and hosting an ’Office-a-Thong’ to get donations from everyone who replaces their pumps with pluggers. Some people held ‘Ping Pong-a-Thongs’ too!
The awareness day helped Youngcare to raise awareness of the lack of appropriate care and accommodation across the nation, and we ar truly grateful for the support of everyone who got involved.
