Volunteer Spotlight – Angela

Volunteer Spotlight – Angela

From the first time I heard about Youngcare, I knew I wanted to be part of it. I witnessed the lack of options of care for my Father who suffered a severe stroke at 57.  After trying to keep him home, my mother who still had three children (the youngest being eight) had no choice but to put him into care where there is little focus on quality of life for a man that is still young at heart. Whilst my father is not, ‘high care’ and my family does contribute to this provision of normality, I contemplate this lifestyle for someone who is even younger and it is heartbreaking.

Recently I had a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) style attack and it scared the life out of me. Whilst I pray that I don’t have another ‘episode’ that could confirm it is MS, I contemplate what my life would be like without having the ability to come and go as I please, work out at the gym, go out on my stand up paddle board and enjoy normal life.

From the events that I have been part of, it is very clear that Youngcare is respected not only by sponsors but also by the broader community.

Each event is a joy to attend. The other volunteers are passionate, enthusiastic and driven by the same commitment to spread the word of Youngcare.  It is truly a privilege to be part of such an amazing group of people.

Volunteering is certainly not for everyone. Not everyone has the time or freedom to participate. To truly be engaged and committed you have to believe and be passionate about what it is you are doing. Only through this will you feel the beautiful reward that comes with volunteering.

Why do I do it? I love the feeling of helping and the prospect of making a difference.  I love interacting with people and feeding off the good vibes from the other volunteers. I love to promote the good work of Youngcare.  Most importantly I believe that Youngcare is deserving of my time, my passion and my commitment.
