Volunteer Spotlight – Cara
Cara is one of our fantastic volunteers! She has been a part of the Youngcare family since December 2015 and has volunteered at a number of Youngcare events from wrapping gifts for donations at Brookside Shopping Centre to most recently volunteering her time to help out at the Brisbane Community Grower’s Markets at King George Square.
“My name is Cara and I am a volunteer for Youngcare. My time volunteering with Youngcare has given me so many opportunities to experience new and exciting events and to constantly meet new people. One of my favourite things about volunteering is getting to meet new people and hear their stories. Being a volunteer has made me realise how lucky I am and how important it is to help people in need.
I started volunteering after hearing about Youngcare and the amazing work that they do. Being a young person myself I realised that it could be me or my friends that needed support and I felt like I needed to help, even if just for a one day a month, every little bit helps.
Volunteering gives me great joy not only knowing that I am helping people, but also because its spreading awareness and talking to people who, like me, had no idea young Aussies living in aged care was an issue.
The events are always great fun and the team of volunteers are always smiling and laughing and it’s impossible not to have a great time. At all events, everyone gives you the utmost respect and gratitude for giving up your time to help, but in all honesty, I am grateful for the opportunity to get to volunteer with such a wonderful group of people for an amazing organisation.”
