The Youngcake arrives
November saw the launch of a new initiative for Youngcare, Bronwyn’s Dad’s Youngcake – a Christmas cake for young people by young people. With a beautiful pack designed by Archibald Prize finalist Michael Zavros, the cakes lovingly baked by the amazing team at Vanilla Pod Ascot and supported by celebrity chef Ben O’Donoghue, they sold like hot cakes!
Bronwyn’s storyDuring an afternoon of baking with celebrity chef Ben O’Donoghue, Bronwyn shared her story – a story that starts with her having “zero life” and feeling “less than nothing” to now living in an apartment where she is able to enjoy her passions for cooking, writing, gardening, painting and visits from family and friends.

The delicious cake was made to a family recipe that current Youngcare resident Bronwyn baked with her father until a diagnosis forced her into a facility where she was unable to do simple things she loved. After moving into specially designed Youngcare accommodation, she now has the opportunity and choice to do the things she enjoys, like baking, writing and gardening.
The 3,000 cakes sold out with all proceeds going towards building better lives for people like Bronwyn.
