Coffee for a cause

Youngcare is the first organisation to feature on Merlo Coffee cups across Queensland.

Youngcare has joined forces with Merlo Coffee to raise funds to help young people with high care needs live the young lives they deserve, securing its spot as the first organisation to feature on more than 20,000 Merlo coffee cups.

Today, coffee-drinkers supported the cause by purchasing coffee at Merlo owned stores across the state, with one dollar from each coffee sold going directly to Youngcare. The organisation has been humbled by the support that we received from our community today, with ambassador Darren Lockyer and the NOVA Casanova’s getting involved with the fun.

Youngcare Chief Executive Officer Anthony Ryan said the partnership with Merlo will help Youngcare raise vital funds and awareness for the 12,000 young Australians with high care needs currently living in accommodation unsuitable for their age or care needs.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with Merlo to raise funds to help stop young people with high care needs from being left behind in unsuitable and unacceptable accommodation like aged care,” he said.

“By joining forces with influential, like-minded businesses like Merlo, we can drive greater awareness of the disability housing crisis in Australia and make a significant impact on young people living with a disability and their families.”

King of coffee, Dean Merlo was proud to invite the community to show their support as well.

“Most of us start the day with a cup of coffee but, by doing it at a Merlo café, you can make it a for a great cause,” Mr Merlo said

Youngcare’s partnership with Merlo is just one initiative the not-for-profit has in place this month to raise funds to help young people with high care needs live where and how they want, with the organisation’s annual Simpson Desert Challenge — a 9-day mental and physical challenge that will see 14 business leaders trek 250km across the Simpson Desert — set to commence on 30 May.  Keep an eye out when you grab your coffee for the special Youngcare cups until they run out!
