Housing Opening Wrap Up 2020

Beautiful new homes in Wooloowin and North Queensland

On Friday 18th September, with Community Housing (QLD) Ltd, the Wooloowin Stage II development was officially opened! Shortly after, we were welcomed into the Townsville community with open arms on Monday 21st September.

The stunning new development in Wooloowin is now home to six young people with high care disabilities. The share house accommodates three young men, who will quickly become great mates. The three townhouses are perfect for the new residents who have chosen a more independent lifestyle. There will be on-site, 24-hour care provided by carers specifically chosen by the new residents and their families.

Mum of one of the new residents, Deb, cut the ribbon along with Trina who is settling into her new townhouse. For a long 31 years, Deb’s son Paul lived in North Queensland, away from his family because of the unavailability of appropriate accommodation to cater to his high care needs.

You can read more about Paul here.

“The family became a little fractured because as the other boys grew up, they didn’t get to see Paul as often,” Deb said.

Finally, Paul is now living in Brisbane, reunited with his brothers and extended family, living the young life he has always deserved!

“We think Paul will be very happy here, and we will be a happy family that’s been united. We are so excited to celebrate every Christmas, and every family event together now that he is just down the road!”

The Youngcare team are so grateful to Community Housing (QLD) Ltd and the State Government for their commitment to supporting young people with high care disabilities through the development of Wooloowin Stage II.

The Youngcare duplexes in Townsville are now home to three young women with high care disabilities and were officially opened by new resident Jasmin and Philip Thompson OAM MP.

The spacious duplexes are completely equipped with automated technologies and accessible finishings, to ensure the residents can live with independence. With a vegetable garden out the back, and plenty of space to enjoy the Townsville sunshine, the new residents have every opportunity to socialise and entertain guests as they wish!

Jasmin is over the moon with her new place, she plans to decorate with a beach theme and can’t wait to finally live with independence.
