Andrew is presently the generalist counsellor with Encircle, Lawnton.  His previous role was as the Carer Counsellor (Brisbane North), Carers Queensland.  He has ten years’ experience as a Carers Counsellor and lived experience as a carer.  He recently completed a Masters of Counselling (QUT) 2019.

Session: Andrew’s lived experience and years in the industry gives him the know-how on the importance of carer wellbeing. He will help you develop a self-care tool kit and support you with enabling adequate self-care for those who spend their time looking after others.

Presenter: Lisa Cox

Lisa Cox is an award-winning media professional, author and public speaker who is actively changing the way disability is represented in mainstream popular culture – like the media, fashion industry and more.

Changing social attitudes, stopping stereotypes and rewriting the narrative around disability is what fuels Lisa’s mission to educate, challenge convention and create tangible change in the way disability is represented in mainstream popular culture.

Session: After a stroke at only 24 years old left Lisa with multiple disabilities, she’s learnt a lot over the years about how to make the most of really difficult situations. This year has presented many challenges, and Lisa would like to share her life lessons to help us through the rest of 2020!

Presenter: Amee Gratton (Disability Law Qld)

Amee is a solicitor with over a decade of experience. She is devoted to empowering marginalized and vulnerable people. She advocates for those with disabilities, their families within the community and their rights for justice.

Working closely with her clients, Amee makes it her business to understand the unique challenges each person faces. This enables her to provide realistic, sensitive and best-practice advice encompassing a range of issues.

Session: Amee will be sharing with us the importance in planning for our futures, and give practical advice on personal and financial preparation, Wills & Trusts and guardianship.

Presenter: Sally Coddington (DSC)

Sally has diverse experience across financial services, human services and for purpose industries around the world and is especially passionate marketing products, services, spaces and experiences for people with a disability.

Sally is a dynamic trainer and presenter, a Certified Practicing Marketer and lecturer in Marketing at the University of Newcastle. She is a Director of the Centre for Universal Design and a past member of the NSW Disability Council. Sally was also the CEO of a disability service provider during the Hunter NDIS trial after finishing her masters at Harvard. One of Sally’s three daughters, Nicky, who passed away in 2018, was an NDIS participant for four years. Sally translates her personal and professional experience into a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities for businesses and individuals.

Session: Sally will share her tips and tricks on getting the most out of your NDIS plan, her many years of experience and life lessons have taught her how to be creative when developing plans!

Presenter: Brooke Kooymans (Rehability) 

Brooke brings almost 20 years’ experience working as a social worker in acquired disability, complex rehabilitation and catastrophic injury management working with Australia’s government and non-government agencies. With significant knowledge and experience of the effective utilisation of focused psychological strategies, Brooke applies her clinical skills to trauma counselling and crisis management for individuals and families. Well regarded in the Social Work Community, Brooke presents at local and national conferences on her work involving acquired brain injury management.

Brooke is committed to the field of complex case management and has a special interest area in the field of acquired brain injury. Brooke has demonstrated throughout her career that she has the expertise to assess, understand any individuals and families build positive working relationships and guide them towards positive outcomes.
