Media Release: Youngcare Building in Townsville

Not-for-profit Youngcare have partnered with Halcorp Developments, a subsidiary company of well-known local developers, Lancini Property & Development, to build accessible housing for young people with high care needs.

The announcement comes at a vital time for the disability housing sector in Queensland, where the need for age-appropriate housing and care is critically high.

There are currently 2,500 young Queenslanders with high care needs living in inappropriate housing, 318 of those eligible for Specialised Disability Accommodation reside in Townsville.

Youngcare CEO, Anthony Ryan said the partnership is the first step to making a real and viable impact in the Townsville region.

“Too many young people are being left behind. They deserve freedom and choice and by partnering with Lancini and developing in Townsville, we can continue to change the disability housing landscape once and for all,” he said.

The planned development will see young people with high care needs living the young lives that we all deserve. Each dwelling will be equipped with the latest technology and equipment, ensuring the residents can live with independence and dignified care.

The partnership allows Lancini Property & Development to give back to a worthy cause and expand their expertise into the accessibility space.

“The work Youngcare does to ensure young people with high care needs are living a fulfilling life is truly inspiring. Lancini Property & Development is thrilled to be partnering to create modern and accessible living spaces for these deserving young people,” Laurence Lancini, Managing Director of Lancini Property & Development said.

Local award-winning builder Martin Locke Homes has also partnered with Youngcare to deliver premium quality housing custom designed and built to suit the individual’s needs.  Owner Martin Locke stated that “As a builder, there is immense joy in building a home for a person or family with needs. My team and I are very proud to be partnering with an organisation like Youngcare, who also have a reputation for excellence, but just as importantly a genuine desire to be part of our great Townsville community for the long term.”

Development is proposed to commence in 2018.
