Volunteer Spotlight – Michelle
Hi everyone, my name is Michelle. I started volunteering with Youngcare as part of my high school’s senior community service program way back in 2010. I prefer to volunteer my time, rather than just donate money, and as I had such a great time, I decided to continue on with Youngcare.
I enjoyed the different types volunteering opportunities that were available – during my six years with Youngcare, I have worked in admin, transcribed interviews, sold raffle tickets, collected money, wrapped Christmas presents, and put together Ikea furniture! I have also attended events such as Oktoberfest, Melbourne Cup celebrations and Winterfest, and had an absolute ball. The flexibility of the volunteer work enabled me to continue volunteering (albeit on a less regular basis) even when I moved to the Gold Coast for four years to study at university.

Youngcare’s cause, helping young people living with disabilities, has been really important to me. I am continually inspired meeting these vibrant and dynamic people every day, and being a volunteer you are able to tangibly see where the money goes. It has been absolutely incredible to see how much this organisation has grown in the past six years. I’ll definitely be sticking around and I’m very excited for what the future holds.
