The Youngcare Budgie Bolt Brisbane flock took flight on Friday, 20 March and it was a huge success! The crowds around Brisbane City and South Bank looked on with adoration (yes it was adoration, we’re sure of it) as close to 300 bolters dashed through the streets in their smugglers, smugglettes, or even tutus and leggings.
Why? For a ton of fun and a fair bit of street cred. But more importantly? To help ensure young Aussies with high care needs can live the young lives they deserve.
The money raised from the event will go toward our At Home Care Grants program, which provides micro grants of between $2,000 and $10,000 for young Aussies with high care needs at risk of entering aged care – young Aussies just like Mary who was just 39 when a brain aneurism suddenly turned her life upside down.
Mary spent months in intensive care, before moving back home with her elderly parents. Thankfully Mary received an At Home Care grant for major home modifications and rehabilitation to help her live more independently, and avoid a long future in aged care.
So a MASSIVE ‘squawk’ out to our Bolters – you guys rock! Also big thanks must go to everyone who made the event possible: our generous event sponsors, our amazing team of volunteers, and everyone who donated to encourage someone they know to strip down and run through the city – you guys are awesome too!
Our amazing Brisbane Bolters are continuing to fundraise right up until the end of the month, and for those of you who are, feel free to contact our Budgie Concierge Service for last minute fundraising hints and tips on 07 3041 3400.
For all you Sydney budgies who are starting to preen your feathers, the southern flock will take flight on a beautiful spring evening in Sydney on Friday, 23 October – you can register HERE.
We hope to see everyone again for the Youngcare Budgie Bolt Brisbane for more great fun in support of young Aussies with high care needs.
