The Beginning!
This morning we waved off an incredible group of very nervous and excited trekkers as they set off on the first day of the Youngcare Simpson Desert Challenge 2015.
It has been a long day for all involved with a 6am flight from Brisbane to Birdsville to meet up with those who drove out. They set off from Birdsville at 12:30pm and did the long journey in the vehicles on tough roads out to their starting point just out from Poeppels Corner where they will set up camp for the night. They reached the camp just before 7pm and are all in good spirits.
They are now offloading and repacking all their gear so they are ready to step off at 7am tomorrow for one of their toughest days of trekking on the challenge.
The trekkers will provide daily updates to Youngcare via satellite phone to confirm they have made it to camp safe and well. Once we’ve received confirmation we will give updates on their progress. The timing of this update may vary from day to day depending on when our trekkers are able to call in.
